Investigating officer in BJP councillor murder case transferred
THE police inspector who was investigating an alleged murder of a BJP councillor of Jasdan by reportedly a fellow BJP leader was transferred on Friday even as two men arrested in connection with the crime were sent to police custody for four days.
Jasdan city police inspector Ranjitsinh Chavda, who was the investigating officer (IO) of the alleged murder of Vipul Hirani alias Lamp, was transferred to headquarters of Rajkot rural police and posted as leave reserve (LR) police inspector. On the other hand Naran Chavda, also an LR and who was in-charge circle police inspector of Jasdan, was given charge of Jasdan city police and investigation of the alleged murder.
District superintendent of Rajkot Rural police, Gagandeep Gambhir confirmed the transfer but refused to disclose reasons behind it. However, she conceded that the transfer had something to do with the murder case of Jasdan.
Hirani, a BJP councillor of ward number-1 of Jasdan Municipality was allegedly shot dead by a group led by Ghanshyam Khachar, fellow BJP councillor and vice president of the Municipality late on Wednesday night. Jasdan city police had arrested Ashok Dhadhal alias Bhadu and Devendra Dhadhal alias Agu on Thursday in connection with the murder.
Meanwhile, Jasdan city police produced Ashok and Devendra into a local court in Jasdan with a remand application. Granting the police plea, the court sent the duo into police custody till Tuesday.
“We have got police custody of the arrested duo, both of them residents of Jasdan, till March 31. We have also formed three teams to nab the rest of the accused who are on the run,” police inspector Naran Chavda, the new IO of the case said.
