Disney is working on a live-action Mulan movie
Disney is looking for more live-action remakes of its classic films. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney just bought a script that revisits the story of Fa Mulan, a female warrior who fought in the Chinese army, that fans first saw in the Academy Award-nominated animated film Mulan back in 1998.
Mulan is only the latest property to earn a remake, though it’s the first to feature a non-white lead. Disney has had reasonable success with its retellings so far. Though neither film were critical darlings, both Alice in Wonderland and Maleficent fared well at the box office. Cinderella opened in theaters three weeks ago to critical acclaim, and has so far earned $335.7 million in global ticket sales.
