Jharkhand HC grants bail to ex-Bihar CM in fodder scam case
The Jharkhand High Court on Monday granted bail to former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra who on March 19 surrendered to a CBI court after being in a hospital on interim bail since his conviction in a fodder case.
The bench of Justice R R Prasad allowed regular bail in the RC20A/96 fodder case in which Mishra was convicted by a special CBI court on September 30, 2013. Mishra had been sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment on October 3 that year in the fodder case pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore from the Chaibasa Treasury in 1990s.
Another ex-Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad and several officials, politicians and fodder suppliers were also convicted in the same case. They have obtained bail in the case earlier. The Jharkhand High Court had on July 21 last year quashed four other fodder cases against Mishra under CrPC 300 that states a person convicted in one case could not be tried in similar cases based on the same witnesses and evidences.
