The state-wide bandh in Karnataka over the Cauvery water issue brought life in the old Mysore region including Bangalore to a standstill on Saturday, but got a mixed reaction in north Karnataka region.
The bandh, called by more than 500 pro-Kannada organisations, was to press the government to go ahead with its plan of constructing a resorvoir at Mekedatu on Cauvery without succumbing to Tamil Nadu government’s pressure.

The public faced inconvenience in Bangalore and other parts of the state as the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses were not plying. People who arrived at the Kempe Gowda Bus Station were seen waiting for the buses to reach their destination. The auto rickshaws sought hefty fare from passengers.
“I came with my family to visit Bangalore a few days ago. Today we have to go back to Mumbai. We have to board the train at Krishnarajapuram Railway Station. We hope the BMTC resumes bus service after 6 pm. We can’t afford to engage auto rickshaws and pay hefty amount,” Vijay T, a tourist said.
