The minister’s remarks come even as the ruling SAD-BJP government in the state faces heavy criticism over the handling of the case. As the case details came tumbling in, it was revealed that the bus, in which the incident happened, belonged to Orbit Company which is owned by the Badals, the family that governs SAD. The family of the 13-year-old girl have refused port-mortem and have demanded that a case be filed against Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. The administration has offered a compensation of Rs 20 lakhs along with a government job for the girl’s family. Congress’s Randeep Singh Surjewala condemned Rakhra’s comments and said that they reflect the ‘arrogance of power.’
