As part of its probe in the case registered after Kalyan youth Areeb Majeed and three other youths from the area allegedly traveled to Iraq and and joined the Islamic State (IS), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is set to get Letters Rogatory issued to a court in Afghanistan seeking details of an Afghan businessman identified as Rehman Daulati.
NIA sources said Daulati, along with a Kabul resident identified as Ahmed Rateb Hussein Zade, were in touch with a local businessman in Kalyan who is also under the scanner. “They were in touch with the local businessman purportedly in connection with a dry fruits business run by them. They had also visited Kalyan,” said a source. “There is some indication that Daulati may have played a role in the funding for the four youths to travel overseas and join IS,” the source added.
According to sources, Daulati left India December last year, with his port of exit being identified as Delhi. The Letters Rogatory issued will seek information on the Afghan businessman’s address, bank account details, his call data records and his associates.
