Rajouri: Army jawan commits suicide along LoC
A 33-year-old army jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Laam sector along the LoC in Jammu & Kashmir’s Rajouri district.
Police have registered a case and are investigating into the circumstances that led to the suicide of Lance Naik Vishal Lohar of 54 Rashtriya Rifles last evening.
The army has also ordered a court of inquiry (CoI) into episode.
The 33-year-old jawan hailed from Karnataka.
Suicide has been a major issue faced by the armed forces. In 2016, as many as 125 military personnel ended their lives. Replying to question in Lok Sabha on Friday, minister of state for defence Subhash Bhamre said 101 soldiers, 19 airmen and five sailors committed suicide last year.
