MP farmers’ agitation | CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan to fast till peace is restored
Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday announced that he will be fasting in Bhopal from tomorrow.
“From 11 AM tomorrow I’ll sit at Dussehra Maidan, people may come and discuss things with me. I will fast to bring about peace,” he said.
“Negative elements will be dealt with strongly. Establishing law and order is our priority. Some people have handed over stones to youth,” he added.
On Thursday, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh finally broke his silence and termed the farmers agitation in Madhya Pradesh as “unfortunate” and said those “politicising” the incident were not concerned about the community’s welfare.
Farmers have been protesting in Mandsuar district of Madhya Pradesh for over a week demanding debt relief. The protest got violent on June 6 as five farmers died in police firing. The situation is still tense in the region.
“The Madhya Pradesh incident is unfortunate. Those politicising the issue do not want welfare of farmers and the country,” Singh tweeted.
He said Shivraj Singh Chouhan was among the CMs who is most concerned about farmers.
