Shiv Sena says Maha crop loan waiver scheme not satisfactory
Barely 24 hours after taking credit, the Shiv Sena on Sunday said the government’s Rs 34,000 crore crop loan waiver scheme won’t fully benefit farmers as there is still a lot of discontent among them. During his interaction with farmers in Nashik district, which emerged as one the leading centres in the six day farmers strike held in the first week of June, the Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray said the cut off date of June 30, 2016 should be extended to June 30, 2017 under the crop loan waiver scheme.
Thackeray reiterated that the government announced the crop loan waiver scheme due to Shiv Sena’s strong demand. ‘’The government’s decision is historic but not satisfactory. Farmers, who are are suffering from burden of debt during April 1, 2012 and June 30, 2016, will get relief as the government has decided to waive loan worth Rs 1.50 lakh. However, the cut off date should be June 30, 2017 instead of June 30, 2016,” he opined.
