Chargesheet filed against ULFA leaders Paresh Baruah and Mukul Hazarika
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed chargesheet against senior Ulfa leader Paresh Baruah and Chairman of the outfit Mukul Hazarika. It is alleged in the complaint that, anti-talk faction of United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), headed by Paresh Baruah and other members of ULFA, are trying to revive terrorist activities by recruiting new cadres, organising terrorist camps within as well as beyond Indian territories and are resorting to extortion and kidnapping to raise funds for attacking Indian security forces, government establishment and infrastructure, thereby intending to wage war against the government of India.
The chargesheet has been filed in connection with a case registered at NIA Guwahati, way back in 2013. Arrested ULFA cadre Gagan Hazarika has also been chargesheeted. The cases have been filed under relevant sections of UAPA and IPC. Currently Paresh Baruah is in Myanmar and Mukul Hazarika is in UK. NIA in its chargesheet says that they have been declared absconders and further action have been initiated. NIA claims that it has collected sufficient material,technical as well as circumstantial evidence against the accused persons during investigation regarding the case.
