Joint opposition flays Modi govt at meet
Demonetization, extreme nationalism, cow vigilantism, beef row, division among the communities and freedom of expression were the issues on which the opposition leaders spoke at third edition of ‘Saajhi Virasat Bachao Conference’ held at Jaipur on Thursday. The conference was held under the chairmanship of JDU leader Sharad Yadav.
The opposition leaders took digs at the Modi government but were found were very much off the mark when it came to sticking with the motive of the meet. Most speeches bordered on personal attacks and there were several instances when they put their foot in the mouth.
CPI leader Atul Anjan mocked Modi’s poor sense of historical facts and called him a ‘great fool’. This was in reference to Modi’s remark about bringing ashes of saffron icon Syamapad Mukherjee from London to India. Anjan quipped that Mukherjee did not die in London.
In a lighter mood Anjan addressed Congress leader Anand Sharma who was also sharing the stage, to fight in the court if a defamation suit is filed against him.
NCP general secretary Tariq Anwar too spoke on similar lines and called Modi an impersonator who was fooling the people.
