Suspended TMC leader Mukul Roy likely to float own party
Suspended Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy is likely to float a new political party and target next year’s panchayat polls in West Bengal to test the political waters in the state. He is currently in the National Capital to complete the formalities of resigning from his Rajya Sabha seat. He was rumored to join the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). But, BJP leaders have hinted him to prove his strength and electoral worth first.
Therefore, he is expected to form his own political party and fight the panchayat polls to exhibit his political strength. “I have candidates for every single seat for the first tier of panchayat polls. But I will chalk out my future course of action after I resign from Rajya Sabha,” Roy said.
Once the second-in-command in the TMC, Roy was suspended for six years for “anti-party activities”.
Confirming his continued presence in the political circle after quitting TMC, he said he never believed that the BJP is “communal” in nature. “I do not consider the BJP to be a communal force.
