Non-Bailable Warrant against Pravin Togadia, 36 others
The Ahmedabad Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Wednesday issued a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s International acting president Pravin Togadia, Bharatiya Janata Party’s sitting MLA and 36 others for not appearing in an attempt to murder case of 1996. Interestingly, the complainant in the case is BJP’s former MLA Jagrupsinh Rajput.
In the 21-year old case, the metropolitan court had ordered the Crime Branch on Wednesday to arrest all these accused and produce them before the court on January 30th. One of the accused Ilesh Patel on Thursday got the NBW stayed from the court.
The case is from 1996, when the then stalwart leader in BJP Shankersinh Vaghela had led revolt against the party high command and had over thrown the BJP from the power. He had organized a public rally at Sardar Patel Stadium, where the leaders were alleged to have been attacked by BJP loyalists. Vaghela’s staunch supporter Atmaram Patel’s dhoti was pulled by the members of the mob and as brutally beaten.
