In UP, 46 people test HIV positive after quack uses same syringe in state-run health camp
Forty-six people have tested HIV positive over a period of 10 months after a common syringe was used at health check up and blood donation camps at Bagarmau Community Health Centre (CHC) in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh.
Startled by the revelation, the Yogi Adityanath government has ordered a probe into the incident. The State Health Minister Dr Siddharth Nath Singh has said that an inquiry has been ordered and directions have been issued to launch a crackdown against quacks and fake doctors. “Action would be initiated against those responsible for the HIV infection,” he said.
The CHC Medical Superintendent Pramod Kumar has lodged an FIR in this connection. He held quacks and fake doctors responsible for HIV infection on these patients. “The infected patients have said that they were treated by a ‘jhola chaap’ doctor who used same needles on many patients. This could be the reason behind many of them tested positive for HIV,” he said.
According to a PTI report, during a routine screening from April to July, 12 HIV positive cases were reported from Bangarmau tehsil alone.
“During another screening in November, another 13 cases were reported from the same place,” Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr S P Chaudhary said.
