Court rejects Bangalore cops plea to examine evidence from Patna blasts

The court rejected the plea stating that the evidence in the Patna case cannot be examined at this point in time since the trial is yet to begin and the evidence would be required during the trial.

A special court hearing terror cases on Saturday rejected a plea by the Bangalore police to examine evidence recovered by the NIA during its investigation into the October 2013 attack at a Narendra Modi rally in Patna.

The Bangalore had police sought an order from the special court saying the material used to make the bombs in the Patna blasts was similar to the IEDs used in the blast at Bangalore’s Church Street in December least year where a woman was killed.

The police made the plea after questioning of two key accused in the Patna blasts case – Haider Ali, 28, and Umer Siddiqui, 37, both alleged members of SIMI – over the past week in Bangalore.

The court rejected the plea stating that the evidence in the Patna case cannot be examined at this point in time since the trial is yet to begin and the evidence would be required during the trial.

The Bangalore police had been questioning Haidar and Umer since February 28 are set to send the duo back to Bihar on Sunday. The duo had brought on a transit warrant from Patna and were handed over to the Bangalore police till March 7.

Police sources associated with the interrogation the two said that the duo had not revealed anything to take the investigation in the Church Street blast case forward.

Police investigations in the Bangalore Church Street case has so far found matches between the pipe used to create the elbow bomb for the Bangalore blast and the elbow pipes used in the Patna attack.
