The internet, like time, is a trip
Some people say the internet has eroded the depth of our involvement with other people, and with the world. I sure feel like that sometimes. But that’s not true, at least not entirely: some things are just different now. In many ways our lives are incommensurable with the lives earlier humans lived, but our experiences are not incompatible. Some of us might not know the 30 people in our village as intimately as our ancestors did, but we can see the thoughts of 3,000 people. That’s profound!
