Indian student denied internship in Germany over ‘rape problem in India’
The German Ambassador to India Michael Steiner on Monday strongly objected to a professor in Germany denying Internship to an Indian male student citing the ‘rape problem in India’.
The ambassador in a letter said that her oversimplifying and discriminating generalization is an offense to Indians.
“Let’s be clear: India is not a country of rapists,” said Ambassador Steiner.
The German professor from the Institute of Biochemistry, Leipzig University had issued an apology after an email thread between the student and her was widely shared online.

The professor in an email response to the Indian student’s application said: “Unfortunately, I don’t accept any Indian male students for internships. We hear a lot about the rape problem in India which I cannot support. I have many female students in my group, so I think this is something I cannot support.”
