Army apprehend nine terrorists in four operations
Security forces on Wednesday apprehended nine terrorists in four different operations, two of whom belonged to the NDFB(S), four to the KPLT and one to the Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA).
While the two NDFB(S) rebels were apprehended in Chirang district that shares international boundary with Bhutan, the four KPLT rebels were arrested in Hamren sub-division in Karbi Anglong. Sharing this information, Guwahati-based defence PRO Lt Col Suneet Newton also said that two cadres of the Meghalaya-based United Achik Liberation Army (UALA) surrendered before the Meghalaya Police and the Army in North Garo Hills, while the MULTA activist was picked up from Goalpara.

Altogether eight militant outfits are active in Assam, five of which have been banned, the Assam government had informed the state assembly here earlier this week. The five banned outfits include ULFA (Paresh Barua faction), NDFB (S), Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), CPI (Maoist) and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM).
The Assam government has also given a break-up of the strength of each group, which is as follows: ULFA (240), NDFB-S(250-270), KLO (70), CPI-Maoist (30), HuM (40), KPLT (40), MULTA (140) and Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh Assam module (20).
