Lok Sabha: Opposition slams rail budget as ‘visionless’
The Opposition on Wednesday criticised the rail budget in the Lok Sabha for being “visionless” and for containing nothing “new”.
Opening the discussion, in the Lower House, Congress leader K C Venugopal said: “He (Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu) has identified 11 major areas of action plan. I am appreciating these things. These are good things—ensuring cleanliness, strengthening security and safety measures, online catering, fast track ticketing, commuter-friendly initiatives like mobile phone charging facility. These are are good steps, but these are not new things. The Railway Budgets presented by his predecessors also had the same mission”.
Slamming the government for not announcing any new train, Trinamool Congress’s Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said: “It is anti-people and visionless… The people have been deceived… There is no roadmap in the rail budget”.
She added that Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had ignored the ‘Vision Document’ of Trinamool chief and former Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee and questioned whether it was a “political vendetta”.
