Chargesheet against BJP MP on bribery charges within 2 weeks,Govt tells HC
Himachal Pradesh High Court today accepted the state government plea assuring it about action against BJP MP Virender Kashyap within next two weeks.
Two-time Shimla MP, Kashyap is facing the vigilance probe into bribery charges based on a sting operation, telecasted by a private TV Channel in April 2009.
The government told the High Court that investigations into the case was at a final stage and it will take only two weeks to file the chargesheet against MP under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary took on record the statement of state’s s Advocate General Shravan Dogra ,who informed the Court that the government will be filing the final report under 173(8) of the CrPC within two weeks from today.
The orders were passed on a petition filed off a petition filed by an RTI activist Dev Ashish Bhattacharya who had sought quashing of an inquiry report filed during previous BJP regime (dated March 2,.2010) ,which had virtually given a clean chit to the MP in the bribery charges.

The TV footages had shown Kashyap accepting cash and promising favours .The Sting operation on him was done ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in 2009.
The petitioner alleged that the inquiry conducted by the state government ( during the BJP rule) was not fair.It was rather aimed at hushing up the matter.
“A special investigating team was constituted on 05.02.2010 to conduct inquiry into the matter and the team submitted its report on 02.03.2010 that no cognizable offence was made out.” he maintained.
During the hearing, state’s Director General of Police had informed the Court that notwithstanding the report dated March 2, 2010 submitted by the SIT, the matter was being probed by the State Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau.A FIR was also lodged on March 6, 2014 under Prevention of Corruption Act against the MP and action as per law was being taken.
