Lok Sabha condemns Katju remarks against Mahatma, Netaji

The Lok Sabha Thursday condemned former Press Council of India chairperson Justice Markandey Katju’s remarks against Mahatma Gandhi and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a day after the Rajya Sabha passed a similar resolution.

“The whole country revers the Father of the Nation and Netaji. The sacrifice and the contribution made by these two stalwarts in the country’s freedom struggle is unparalleled,” Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said in a resolution. She added that Katju’s remarks against the two leaders were “unbecoming” of him. “This House condemns his remarks,” she said. The resolution came hours after the issue was raised by RJD’s Rajesh Ranjan during the morning session.

In his blog, Katju had called Mahatma Gandhi a British agent and Netaji a Japanese one.
Meanwhile, former Delhi HC Chief Justice Rajinder Sachar in a statement said that “the outrageous, senile statement on blog by Justice Katju… being the raving of out of office frustrated individual deserves to be rejected with the contempt it deserves”. “By this statement Katju has qualified himself to be the fittest successor to Mohan Bhagwat, RSS chief.
Had Churchill been alive he would have embraced Katju and included him the senior most position in his cabinet of 1940,” Sachar said.

After Rajya Sabha condemned his remarks, Katju posted in his blog: “O wonderful news ! The Rajya Sabha has passed a resolution condemning me! But of course that is not enough…”
