UP: Day after ‘attack by Gurjars’, 3 Dalit families flee village
A day after a mob of the Gurjar community allegedly attacked three Dalit families, ransacking their houses and beating up women and children in UP’s Pilibhit district, the families left the village on Sunday morning. Four persons including two women had been injured in the attack.
Village pradhan Anand Prakash, a Gurjar, said three Dalit families, including that of one Vijay Pal, his uncle and another relative, have left the village, which has a population of around 1000 with Gurjars forming nearly 80 per cent.
The attacks followed the alleged elopement of a Gurjar girl with Pal, a daily-wage labourer at a factory in Uttarakhand, on March 10.
A case has been lodged against 22 persons, including the girl’s father who was arrested along with three others Saturday. The girl’s father, too, got an FIR lodged against Pal, his uncle and two cousins on charges of abducting his 19-year-old daughter for forced marriage.
Heavy police force has been deployed in the village to avoid any untoward incident.
