Left women MLAs to file sexual assault case against UDF legislators in Kerala
Speaker N Sakthan had suspended five Left legislators until the end of the current session of the assembly on charges of vandalizing the Speaker’s dais.
Five LDF women legislators have decided to file a police complaint against some of the UDF MLAs for allegedly sexual harassing during the ruckus in the Kerala Assembly on budget day.
The women legislators alleged that UDF MLAs — K. Sivadasan Nair, M.A. Wahid, A.T. George, Dominic Presentation and Shibu Baby John — insulted womanhood in the assembly.
The aggrieved women legislators are Jameela Prakasham, K K Lathika, Geetha Gopi, B S Bijimol and K Suleekha.

Speaker N Sakthan had suspended five Left legislators until the end of the current session of the assembly on charges of vandalizing the Speaker’s dais. However, the Speaker did not take any action against the ruling front legislators, who, according to five women legislators of the Opposition, had physically assaulted them during the melee.
Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan condemned the incident and took strong exception to the behaviour of the UDF legislators, who had celebrated the presentation of the budget by Finance Minister K M Mani. “Why the ruling front legislators stood up from their seats and moved towards the women legislators.” Referring to UDF legislators kissing Mani, VS asked, “how they can convert the House into a venue for kiss of love. They should be booked for homo sexuality.”
He said Congress legislators who had sexually insulted the women legislators of the Opposition should be subjected to medical treatment for their disease. “Otherwise, women legislators would not be able come to the House with pride,” said VS.
He said the Opposition would go to any legal extent to bring the UDF legislators to the book for the alleged sexual assault.
Left legislator Jameela Prakasham gave a detailed account of the alleged assault she had faced from Congress legislator Sivadasan Nair. Reproducing the photographs of the mayhem, Prakasham said she had bitten Nair, when he failed to withdrawn his hand from her waist. “ Nair touched me with sexual intention. He had no business to come near me. When his leg and arm touched my body, I had no other option but to bite him,” said Prakasham.
Nair, however, refuted the allegations of Prakasham. “I too will present video footage to show what exactly happened,” said Nair.
