PM’s brother Prahlad Modi attacks NDA govt

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s brother Prahlad Modi lashed out at the BJP government at the Centre, saying it had “failed” to live up to the expectations of the ration shop keepers and lacked the will to solve their problems. Prahlad, a fair price shop owner in Gujarat, was part of a protest at Jantar Mantar organised by the All India Fair Price Shop Federation on Tuesday, of which he is the vice president.

“The government is planning to introduce biometric system in the Public Distribution System (PDS) to end corruption. But this will also put an end to the benefits accrued by the traders. We want the government to sit with us and chalk out a plan so that we are not left behind,” said Prahlad.

He also said the BJP government lacked the determination to solve the problems of PDS shop owners.

“We don’t believe that this government is worthless. But it does not have the will to address our problems,” he said.

The fair price shop dealers are staging demonstrations across the state capitals in support of their demands, including increase in commissions. “The government should increase our commission with a guaranteed minimum quantity of goods or should make us government employees, “ he said.

Prahlad also warned the current government not to turn a blind eye to them, otherwise, the party “will face similar fate as in Delhi in the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar and UP”.

He said that after coming to power the party failed to look into the problems of the traders in Delhi and, therefore, the traders voted “against” the party in the Delhi assembly elections.
