Manohar Parrikar to visit Japan, boost defence ties
defence minister Manohar Parrikar
In his first ever foreign visit, defence minister Manohar Parrikar will embark on a two-day visit to Japan from March 30.
The visit comes in the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Japan in September wherein the two sides had agreed to continue the “dialogue” between the ministers, including defence ministers. Parrikar’s two-day visit will be followed by a visit to South Korea.

“The defence minister will push for ‘Make in India’ during his visits abroad,” said a defence ministry official. The visit is crucial given the growing ties between the two nations — especially in light of the Sino-Japanese dispute over the Senkaku/ Diaoyu islands and South China sea territory — regarding which India has taken a firm stand. Japan has been discussing about the supply of 12 US-2 amphibian aircraft to India besides other military hardware.
