Lathicharge on SFI members: BJP supports CPM in House

In an unusual development, Opposition BJP Friday supported CPM in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly over the March 18 incident of police lathicharge on SFI activistsin Shimla.

Immediately after the Question Hour in the Assembly, BJP’s chief whip Suresh Bhardwaj sought Speaker B B L Butail’s permission to draw the attention of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh towards the lathicharge against SFI activists who were protesting against fee hike and a few other issues.

Defending the police action, Virbhadra accused SFI activists of resorting to stone pelting. “They had brought stones in bags,” the CM said.
