Maneka to approach Jaitley over funding for WCD Ministry

Cut in budgetary allocation to health and women and child development ministries became a tool for the Opposition to attempt to embarrass the government as Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi said she along with Health Minister J P Nadda planned to approach the Finance Minister for more funds. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, present in the House, did not react even as Opposition kept urging him to respond.

During Question Hour, Maneka told the House that there has been 50 per cent reduction in the budget for Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) and other areas of her Ministry in the Budget.
Jumping at the opportunity, Opposition members P Karunakaran of CPI, Asaddudin Owaisi of MIM, Mohammed Salim of CPM and others started demanding a response from Jaitley. “We are with you on this,” Karunakaran said to Maneka. However, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan did not pay any heed to the demand of the opposition.
