Invite to separatists irks BJP
The Pakistan High Commission’s decision to invite Hurriyat leaders seems to have upset the ruling BJP, which cautioned that the High Commission should ensure it is not becoming “a hub of anti-India activities”.
“India is a free country. Everyone is free to move around and meet others. But Pakistan High Commission should ensure that it is not becoming a hub of anti-India activities,” BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said.
“BJP, when it came to power, initiated a new chapter in India-Pakistan relations. But Pakistan’s response has been disappointing,” Sharma said.
Separatist leaders, including Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, were invited for Pakistan’s National Day celebration at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
Disapproving Pakistan’s move, Sharma pointed out that India had called off the foreign secretary level talks set for August 25 after the Pakistani High Commissioner met Kashmiri separatist leaders ahead of the talks, ignoring India’s request not to do so. “We disapprove it,” he said.
