Farmers above 60 to get monthly pension: Khattar
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had in his speech at Hussainiwala in Punjab Monday said the modalities of such a scheme was being worked out.
The BJP-led NDA government has decided to give a monthly pension of Rs 5,000 to farmers after they turn 60. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced this in Assembly.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had in his speech at Hussainiwala in Punjab Monday said the modalities of such a scheme was being worked out.
Modi’s speech, available at PIB’s website, mentions two significant points about the scheme. “The Government of India has formulated a scheme in which the farmer above the age of 60 years, if he joins the scheme, can get a monthly pension of Rs 5000 under the Public Private Partnership model.”

It adds, “Our country’s farmer should lead his old age with peace and honour; to ensure that, we have taken an important step towards this direction in the Budget this time.” The speech also states that the monthly pension shall be made through cheques to eligible farmers.
The state government claimed they were yet to receive any communication about the scheme from the Centre.
“From the PM’s speech, it is clear that the Government of India has formulated a scheme to give a monthly pension of Rs 5,000 to farmers. But we are yet to receive the communication about such modalities and details of the scheme,” said Sanjeev Kaushal, Principal Secretary to Khattar.
