Signaling the urgency for unity among Left parties, Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat on Wednesday said only the Left parties could provide a credible alternative to the rising Right-wing forces in the country.
Addressing the 22nd Party Congress of the Communist Party of India (CPI) Wednesday at Puducherry, Karat said that at a time when the Congress is responsible for neo-liberal agendas and corruption, only a strong independent Left can put up a real alternative in the present political scenario. At a time when many are proposing the idea of merging Left parties, Karat said, “I hope that the Party Congress would address the task of how to build and strengthen the CPI.”
He added that his party will also focus on the same at the CPI(M)’s 21st Congress at Vishakhapatnam from April 14 to 19, 2015. Karat said major parties have to work towards broadening Left unity to bring all Left parties, groups and individuals for joint action and united movements.
