PM Narendra Modi takes stock of Ganga cleaning exercise
Modi took stock of the progress made so far on the Ganga cleaning exercise which has been one of the top priorities of this government.
Calling for an “uncompromising” and “mission-mode approach” to prevent further pollution of Ganga river, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday stressed that cleaning of the holy river was not just a social and religious imperative but also had a strong economic logic.
Speaking at the fifth meeting of the National Ganga River Basin Authority, in the presence of chief ministers of four states through which Ganga flows, Modi said Ganga river, which directly or indirectly supports the livelihood of more than a quarter of India’s population, had the potential to generate immense economic activity.

It was the second meeting of the NGRBA after this government came to power and the first in which Modi participated.
Modi took stock of the progress made so far on the Ganga cleaning exercise which has been one of the top priorities of this government. All the relevant ministries gave an account of the work accomplished so far in this regard.
The recommendations and suggestions of the various committees, including the report of the IIT Consortium, were also presented before the meeting.
