Scolded by mother for chatting on FB, UP teen shoots self
Scolded for chatting on Facebook, a Class IX student committed suicide by reportedly shooting himself with a pistol in his house in Naini police station area on Wednesday evening. Police said the boy was angry over being scolded by his mother for chatting on Facebook on mobile phone.
Police said the incident came to light when Vimal Shukla (15), a resident of Manas Nagar, was declared brought dead at a private hospital in the city around 9 pm. Hospital authorities confirmed that he had shot himself in the head.
At the time of the incident, his father Vijay Kant, his wife Neelam Shukla and Vimal, were present in the house.
“Despite his mother’s warning to not chat on Facebook through his mobile, Vimal continued to do so, following which his mother scolded him. Vimal angrily banged the mobile phone on the floor and went inside his room. It was after about an hour after that his parents heard a gunshot. They rushed to his room and found that Vimal had shot himself in the head. They rushed him to a local hospital in the area, but was declared brought dead,” said SHO of Naini police station, Siddhartha Tomar.
Circle Officer (CO, Karchhana), Samar Bahadur Singh, said: “The family members have told us that they are not aware as of how and when the boy brought in the firearm. They have not produced any document indicating that it was a licenced weapon. The weapon was a .32 bore pistol.”
Singh further added, “So far, the scolding he got from his mother appears to be the only reason behind the incident. It appears that the boy took the extreme step in a fit of rage.”
The CO added that, as of now, the family was in shock and both the parents were falling unconscious intermittently.
