Police officers visit injured maoist with fruits
Jharkhand police on Saturday reached out to disaffected Maoists in an unprecedented way with two senior officers visiting an injured woman cadre in a Ranchi hospital on Saturday evening and gifting her fruits.
ADG (Headquarters) B.B. Pradhan and IG (Human Rights) visited Lalmuni, injured in an encounter with a police-CRPF team in Latehar district at around 2 AM, at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences
Police spokesperson and IG Anurag Gupta said that the visit was part of Operation Nai Disha, launched by DGP D.K. Pandey. As part of an effort to encourage disaffected left wing extremists to surrender, the state government had cleared an improved surrender policy earlier this month.
Lalmuni had been injured on the foot in an encounter that saw two of her alleged comrades killed. They were later identified as Tufan and Taklu, member of PLGA commander Nakul Yadav’s team. “The encounter took place near Dubiahi/ Satkhandwa jungle, near Kone picket within Latehar Sadar police station limits.
A joint team of the police and CRPF were on an area domination exercise when they chanced upon a team of Maoists. Two bodies were found after the encounter. On searching further, an injured woman Maoist was also found,” said DGP Pandey, who is camping in Latehar. Lalmuni was airlifted to Ranchi for better treatment.
