I-T officer held for bribe, co-workers attack CBI team
Minutes after a CBI team arrested an Income-Tax officer red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a Lucknow-based builder Tuesday, his fellow officers assaulted the investigative team, injuring at least three of them, and also tried to snatch away the bribe money.
The anti-corruption branch of CBI said Income-Tax officer Niranjan Kumar had demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from the builder to settle an issue of income-tax assessment for the financial year 2011-12. After he reportedly refused to look into the matter without getting the money, the builder contacted the CBI officials, who laid a trap.
