Molestation Case: Pak High Commission writes to MEA; accused gets anticipatory bail

Concerned over reports of a Pakistan teenage girl being molested in Pune, the Pakistan High Commission has raised the issue with the Ministry of External Affairs and has demanded action against the accused.

The Pakistan High Commission, in a note verbale to the MEA on Monday, conveyed its “concern over the incident of molestation with a minor Pakistani girl”. It also asked the Ministry to share with it the contact details of the girl, findings of the investigation and action taken in the case.

According to reports, Anand Shivaji Gidde, attached to the Pakistan desk of the Foreigner Regional Registration Offices (FRRO), visited the 13-year-old girl’s house on March 24 on the pretext of verifying documents and allegedly molested her. Her father lodged an FIR at the The Pimpri police station.

Meanwhile, the Pune police on Tuesday said they have not been able to arrest Gidde as he secured an anticipatory bail from the sessions court. The police, however, said they will challenge the anticipatory bail in court. Assistant Police Inspector S B Patil of Pimpri police station said, “We could not arrest Gidde because he secured anticipatory bail from the sessions court. We would be moving court against the bail order.”

Gidde was suspended from service following the allegations and the FRRO has initiated a departmental inquiry against him.
