Two suspects involved in Bengal nun rape case: Ludhiana police

Following three days of search operations in Ludhiana in West Bengal nun rape case, police Thursday confirmed that seven Bangladeshi immigrants have been arrested and two of them were “involved” in the case. Those arrested include Zeenat Sheikh, Mohammad Habibul, Ibadul, Sheikh Mumtaz, Mustagin Sheikh, Mohammad Salim and Sohag Alam. Ludhiana police has also detained a woman gang member, Mona, who was booked in a fraud case in Ludhiana a few days ago.

Speaking to The Indian Express, ADCP Crime, Ludhiana, Mukhwinder Singh said, “All these are members of a gang and claimed to be residents of Bengal. But the addresses given by them are fake. They all are illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and two of them — Mohammad Salim and Habibul — have links with the nun’s rape case.” He added that Bengal Police had sent photos of the accused in the rape case and two of those photos match with Mohammad Salim and Habibul.

“Mohammad Salim and Habibul are most probably involved but we cannot specify the details till the Police is here. They are expected to be in Ludhiana in a day or two,” he said.

In the FIR lodged Thursday at Focal Point police station, the accused have been booked under sections 399 (making preparations to commit dacoity), 402 (assembling for the purpose of committing dacoity), 120B (being party to a criminal conspiracy) and 25, 54 and 59 of Arms Act.
