Fabindia voyeurism: Goa Police summon 11 employees

Irani, who was on a two-day holiday with her family in Goa visited the Fabindia outlet in Candolim on April 3.

As many as 11 people from Fabindia, including its Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), have been summoned by Goa police on Tuesday, in connection with the voyeurism case registered by Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani. Police have asked the senior staff members to be present for questioning by Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday, Goa police also recorded the statement of the store manager Chaitrali Sawant who was on leave on April 3, the day the incident took place. Sawant had procured an anticipatory bail from a local court on Monday.

Police is now probing which employee among the four accused changed the direction of the CCTV camera.

“According to the statement given by the representatives of the Bangalore CCTV firm, that installed the cameras inside the store, the direction of the lens was altered by 60 degrees from its original position,”said an officer from the Goa police.

Meanwhile, a statement released by the store read, “Police have asked for in-depth information and access. As of Monday, senior members have been travelling to Goa with the required information in batches, and will continue to do so till all the information required is provided to police… The MD and the CEO will meet the authorities as part of the process.”

Irani, who was on a two-day holiday with her family in Goa visited the Fabindia outlet in Candolim on April 3. While shopping at the outlet, the minister selected some outfits. While trying them, Irani spotted a camera, whose lens allegedly pointed inside the trial room and immediately alerted her husband Zubin Irani.

The minister then called local BJP MLA Michael Lobo who later on lodged a complaint at the Calangute police station on behalf of her. Following the complaint, police arrested four Fabindia employees.
