RS to meet from April 23
The Rajya Sabha will meet from April 23, three days after it was supposed to resume the Budget Session according to the original schedule. The new Rajya Sabha schedule was drawn by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs when it met on Tuesday.
The government had to delay the Rajya Sabha Session by three days to provide for the mandatory 15-day period to members to give their notices for questions under Rule 39 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of Rajya Sabha. The number of sittings, 13, for both Houses remains unaltered. Apart from Saturdays and Sundays, the two Houses will have holidays on May 1 and May 4 on account of the May Day and Buddha Purnima, respectively.
Since the Rajya Sabha would meet three days behind the schedule, it would sit for as many working days more and conclude its Session on May 13. The Lok Sabha will meet as scheduled, from April 20, and wrap up the Session on May 8.
