Sunny Leone: Love of my fans keeps me in Bollywood
Sunny plays a twin role in ‘Ek Paheli Leela’ – one is of a modern young girl and the other is of a village belle Leela.
Sunny Leone, who calls her working in Bollywood movies “not less than a dream come true”, was all chirpy, excited and pretty as she promoted her upcoming movie ‘Ek Paheli Leela’ at a mall in Gurgaon.
The sexy actress’ dream, however, is a bit contorted, for on one hand, she is the most searched Indian celebrity on Google, and on the other “big” actors refused to be a part of ‘Ek Paheli Leela’ because she was starring in it. But, Sunny Leone is unabashed and unapologetic about her stature in the Indian Film Industry.
“What I do know is regardless of what the critics say, those numbers of being the most searched celebrity in India, those don’t lie. So, no matter what anybody says, no matter how much one wants to tear you down, or might not want to work with you and say you’re the worst actress, this or that, it’s my fans who keep me here in Bollywood. Nobody else does that. So, they are the only ones, who matter. This is the small analytical thing me and my husband have done,” she says.

Ask her about her soon-to-release movie ‘Ek Paheli Leela’, she says getting into the character was a bit difficult for her, mostly due to the soaring temperatures in Rajasthan.
“It was very hot, about 49-50 degrees and I would have to apply make-up every 4-5 hours since it got washed out because of the excessive heat and sweat. Also, I had to speak Rajasthani, ” Sunny quips.
“Also my body language, in general, is of a modern girl in today’s times. Everytime I faltered, I told myself ‘No Sunny, Leela is like this. Leela speaks like this.’ So, it was a process in itself, to mould myself as Leela, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally,” she adds.
‘Ek Paheli Leela’ is a story of reincarnation. So, does she believe in the concept of “soul transferring to another body”? Sunny replies, “Yes, I do. I believe soul transfers from one life to another.”
So if she had to reincarnate, which actor or actress she would choose? “The first time I was asked this question, I said Salman Khan. And I still say so. I would like to come back as Salman Khan. He is one of the biggest stars in India; does charity and nobody messes with him. So Salman Khan,” said Sunny Leone.
Sunny plays a twin role in the movie – one is of a modern young girl and the other is of a village belle Leela. So, quite understandably the modern version by the name of Meera must have been something she could relate to better.
She opines, “I could relate to both. Meera is a modern young lady which I am, so playing her was easier. Leela is a princess, and I think every girl has an innate princess in herself. So, I could relate to it as well, though I had to learn the village mannerisms.”
The director of the movie Bobby Khan and co-star Jas Arora were all praises for the actress. When asked about what goaded him to choose Sunny for the role, Bobby said, “She is one of the most beautiful actresses in India right now and I thought she could perfectly fit the bill. And when I watch the promos, I think I was right too. She has made Leela her own.”
Jas Arora, who is making a comeback to the silver screen after a long gap of 12 years, said Sunny Leone was a very hardworking person. “The temperatures in Rajasthan were soaringly high. She was sweating and it was so difficult for us to shoot. But she was unperturbed. Now she demands for AC and all. There she used to be all calm and all ready for shoot anywhere, anytime.”
‘Ek Paheli Leela’ is slated to release this weekend, i.e. on April 10.
