At least seven personnel of the Chhattisgarh Special Task Force (STF) have been killed and eleven injured in a Maoist attack in Sukma district of south Bastar Saturday noon.
The STF was actively undertaking operation in the interior areas when they were ambushed by the Maoists in Kankerlanka region of Sukma. The deceased included Platoon commander Sankar Rao, head constable Rohit Sori and constables Manoj Baghel, Mohan Uike and Kiran Deshmukh.
“Seven personnel have been killed. We also lost a brave platoon commander. Details are awaited,” RK Vij, ADG (Naxal Ops), said.
While some of the injured have reached the nearest police camp, the deceased are yet to be evacuated.
This is the biggest Maoist attack on the security forces this year, as the Chhattisgarh elite STF faced the worst single-day casualty in the last several years.
