Watch ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ title track: Ranveer, Priyanka, Anushka, Farhan at their colourful worst
So despite the goof-ups, the unmatched lip-syncs and lack of co-ordination among the stars, the song can still be given a hear, but at one’s own risk.
The wait is finally over. The first song of the much awaited Zoya Akhtar-directorial ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ is out and why (read: we didn’t say ‘how’).
First watch the song, and while doing that don’t listen to it and if you plan to listen, don’t (abort mission) – DO NOT WATCH IT.

Taking cue from Zoya’s previous movie ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’s song – ‘Sooraj Ki Baahon’, this title track can be well called the worst mistake of the year. The aforementioned song, the title track of the movie ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’, is a journey – so there’s a smile initially, the anticipation of something nice that can happen. Then the monotony sets in and the smile fades.
It can also be called the journey of Zoya Akhtar transforming into Farah Khan. So, there’ll be hues, shades and colours all over, but where’s the substance? Nowhere, we say.
The song starts with Ranveer Singh waking up in style, Shefali Shah coochie-cooing with Anil Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra singing ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’. Then Farhan Akhtar arrives, falling short of his ‘riyaaz’ and singing. So far, all’s well. Well almost. Okay, forget the extra red and pink in the background; it’s Retro .
Then arrives Anushka Sharma. We have a thing against the cameramen now. Anushka is beautiful lady, gentlemen. Why not showing her properly? For the first few moments, we actually failed to recognise her. Then she begins lip-syncing to Priyanka Chopra’s voice and even gyrating to the lyrics. Bad idea.
Ranveer Singh arrives on the scene and carries on his unique style of dressing. He wears a blood red suit in the song and we, let’s face it, are quite used to it.

We must check Anushka’s itinerary for this song, for she looks visibly tired and so not interested in the dance. She is a good dancer but here she fails to match Ranveer, Farhan and Priyanka. Even the expressions pan out.
A bigger heartfail awaits when Shefali Shah lip-syncs to Priyanka’s voice.
If this wasn’t enough, one can see Anil Kapoor trying to match Farhan’s voice. And this is where, we pause the video for a while. And this is the moment we stop believing in Reema Kagti’s repertoire too.
There are glimpses of Vikrant Massey, who was seen with Ranveer in ‘Lootera’ too, dancing with actress Ridhima Sud and they are surprisingly good.
The two-minute song is not a treat to the eyes for sure. The background is too colourful that actually makes it look like a scene coming out of an Archie comic book. The background dancers, dressed in sailor uniforms, increase the strain on the rods and cones of the eyes.
Priyanka in orange, Anushka in blue, Ranveer in red – Too dysfunctional this family is.
So, we thought why not closing the eyes? Hmm, the song now seems bearable. The voices then: Priyanka and Farhan have a flourishing music career apart from their movie career and taking that into consideration, and mind it, we are no great musicians ourselves, they fall flat at places. But the auto-tuners could have worked well, had they not made the others lip-sync to their voices.
So, despite the goof-ups, the unmatched lip-syncs and lack of co-ordination among the stars, the song can still be given a hear, but at one’s own risk.
Here’s hoping the movie is better.
