AAP leader Ashutosh breaks down while speaking about the death of Gajendra Singh
Aam Aadmi Party leader Ashutosh
During a television debate earlier on Friday, Aam Aadmi Party leader Ashutosh broke down into tears as he spoke about the death of Gajendra Singh, a farmer from Rajasthan who committed suicide in the middle of an AAP rally on Wednesday.
Ashutosh, during the course of the debate, became highly emotional and pleaded that leaders must not play politics over the issue. The debate was also attended by BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra and Gajendra’s daughter.
Addressing Singh’s daughter, Ashutosh said that even though he was present at the event, he could not save her father.
Over the last two days, there has been anger against Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party for continuing their rally even after Singh’s body was taken to the hospital.
Earlier on Friday, Kejriwal expressed remorse and said that it was a mistake on his part to continue the rally after Singh’s suicide.
Singh’s public suicide has brought the spotlight back on the issue of distressed farmers who have suffered immense crop damage in the event of unseasonal rains.
The issue has gained greater mileage in the backdrop of the Centre’s proposed land acquisition bill, which all opposition parties are dead against.
