Karnataka HC directs govt to hold BBMP elections as per 74th amendment, does not specify date
Karnataka High Court set aside the single bench order that directed Karnataka State government and State Election Commission to conduct BBMP elections by May 30.
The division bench headed by Chief Justice DH Waghela and Justice Ram Mohan Reddy on Friday directed the Karnataka Government and SEC to hold BBMP elections as per 74th amendment, however it did not set any time-duration.
Responding to an application filed by the corporators seeking stay on its orders for seven days, the Division Bench declined to stay.
Meanwhile, BJP leader and Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister R Ashok said that BJP is mulling of moving to the Supreme Court against the HC order. “We will discuss the matter with all the councillors, consider their opinion on how swiftly election must be conducted and the legal grounds on which we can approach the apex court. We are against the administrative rule which has been the root cause for BBMP’s deplorable financial condition”
