Youth who claimed to be top cop son among two arrested for attack on NE youths
Two youths who allegedly molested a girl from the north east and assaulted her cousin in central Bangalore on April 21 have been arrested by the police. One of the attackers had claimed to be the son of the Bangalore police commissioner M N Reddi.
The arrested persons have been identified as Afan and Abbas both aged about 22. Deputy Commissioner of Police (central division) Sandeep Patil confirmed the arrest on Thursday afternoon and said that two more persons involved in the attack on the girl and boy from Arunachal Pradesh were still at large.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night when Arunachal Pradesh native Tumken Siram and his cousin sister were on their way to their residence in the Shantinagar area in central Bangalore. Four unidentified persons, now identified as residents of the area, allegedly passed lewd comments about the girl which resulted in cousin confronting the youths.
According to the Ashoknagar police an altercation followed where the unidentified persons assaulted Siram. The unidentified persons also allegedly molested the girl victim during the altercation. When the victims said they were going to report the matter to the police one of the attackers claimed to be the son of the Bangalore police commissioner.
Siram set off the process of investigation in the matter by alerting police commissioner M N Reddi about the attack via Twitter. “How can we deal with misbehaving people who say they’re commissioner’s son? Is there no other way than to get hit & assaulted 4 nthng,” he said in a tweet directed to the commissioner shortly after the incident. The police commissioner replied tweeting “it is utterly false. Somebody has told lies (sic).
You need to speak to local DCP as advised. Whoever they are, will be duly punished,” while asking the local police to probe the matter speedily. The local DCP Sandeep Patil soon tweeted to Siram saying “FIR has been reg yday night under 354 IPC.Suspects wil b held, u wil b reqd 2 cme for identifction.”
