SC stays privilege motion against Shobha De
Shobhaa De had tweeted that it was nothing but hooliganism. “I love Marathi movies. Let me decide when and where to watch them, Devendra Fadnavis. This is nothing but Dadagiri.”
The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed a notice of privilege motion moved against columnist Shobha De by the Maharashtra Assembly over her tweets against screening Marathi movies on the prime time in cineplexes.
A bench led by Justice Dipak Misra also issued a notice to the Principal Secretary of the Maharashtra Legislative Secretariat and sought responses within eight weeks.
By a notice dated April 10, De was asked to furnish explanations over her tweets which was alleged to be against the privilege of the Assembly and sought to bring it to disrepute.
Pratap Sarnaik, member of legislative assembly, had moved a breach of privilege motion against De.
Criticising Maharashtra government decision, Shobha De had tweeted, “No more pop corn at multiplexes in Mumbai? Dahi misal and vada pav only. To go better with the Marathi movies at prime time.”
Soon after the privilege motion was given, Shobha De tweeted, “Now a privilege motion demanding an apology from me? Come on! I am a proud Maharashtrian and love Marathi films. Always have. Always will !”
