Indians marrying late: Census
The mean age for females getting married has increased from 18.3 years to 19.3 years.
A 2011 census study prepared by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India has revealed that Indians are now getting married at an older age than a decade ago.
As per the data released, the mean age for females getting married has increased from 18.3 years to 19.3 years. Similarly, the mean age for males getting married has shot up from 22.6 years in to 23.3 years.
The study further says the proportion of divorced and separated has marginally increased for both the sexes. The data on marital status has revealed the proportion of married women to total number of women was 49.9 per cent in 2011 census as against 47.7 per cent in 2001.
In the case of males, this proportion is 46 per cent as against 43.6 per cent in 2001.
