5 Questions: Harsimrat should have said bus belongs to Badals, says Ravneet Singh Bittu
Ravneet Singh Bittu
Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu talks to The Indian Express after he forced adjournment over girl’s alleged molestation and death.
What made you storm the well?
I had moved an adjournment motion and requested the Speaker to allow the injustice done to a 13-year-old girl in Moga to be taken up. I told her she too is a mother… Harsimrat Kaur Badal should have spoken about it, said the bus is ours (Badal family’s) and assured the strictest action will be taken.
What have you demanded?
I have demanded a (parliamentary) fact-finding committee.
You weren’t allowed to raise the issue after question hour.
I don’t understand what the pressure from the government on the Speaker was, but I felt sad that as an MP from Punjab I couldn’t raise such a key issue. Madam said it would be taken up at 6 pm, but there will be few people then.
What do you attribute the incident to?
The issue is connected to drugs, we have to see it in this perspective. These drivers and conductors are always high on drugs.
What will you do next?
We will fight out the issue in Punjab, on the streets or otherwise. As MPs, it is our right to raise it in the House too. Our effort will be to put pressure on the Centre; we have no faith in the Punjab government.
