VHP slams US report on minorities
Rejecting the findings of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom that slammed the treatment of religious minorities in India, VHP Saturday said the report was a reaction to India’s attempts to curb conversion as well as illegal activities of Christian missionaries.
“Interestingly US raises its voices only when Christian missionaries faced some trouble. They are now worried about the reaction to the conversion and the illegal activities of missionaries. They want missionaries to get a free hand here,” VHP joint general secretary Surendrakumar Jain said.
The Commission in its 2015 report said that religious minorities in India have been subjected to derogatory comments by politicians of BJP since Narendra Modi government took over.
According to Jain, the organisation never expressed any concern on Kashmiri Hindus or when Christian missionaries burnt Buddhist monasteries in Tripura. “They were silent on the issue of link between the Church and terrorist organisations. They want everyone to encourage the false campaign by the missionaries” Jain said.
The VHP leader questioned the US organisation’s right to comment on India. “The US is not the darogar (headconstable). It should set its own house in order. What about the racial attacks and the assaults on Hindu temples in the US?” Jain said.
