Five maoists, including leader Roopesh, arrested in Kerela
In a major breakthrough, five Maoists, including its top leader from Kerala, Roopesh, were on Monday arrested by the Andhra the police in Coimbatore. According to sources, the arrested persons include Roopesh’s wife Shaina, Anoop, another leader from Kerala and Veeramani from Karnataka.
Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala confirmed the arrest. He claimed that Roopesh, Shaina and other Maoists had moved to Tamil Nadu in the wake of heightened vigilance in Kerala.
“They were arrested in a joint effort by police forces of south Indian states,” said Chennithala.
They are likely to be brought to Kerala on Tuesday for questioning.
Roopesh is a native of Thriprayar in Thrissur while Shaina belongs to Valappad. They have been leading the CPI (Maoist) in Kerala. The duo hit the headlines with a few recent attacks on institutions and business houses. Earlier, there were several unconfirmed reports about spotting of the duo in North Kerala villages bordering forest.
