Opposition stalls RS over CAG report

It was a pamphlet-war between the Treasury benches and Congress MPs in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, as the latter stalled proceedings for the third straight day demanding Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s resignation over a CAG report alleging irregularities in a loan to a firm linked to his family.

As soon as proceedings began, Congress’s Pramod Tiwari moved a notice under Rule 267 to suspend business and begin discussions on their demand seeking Gadkari’s resignation. BJP MP Vijay Goel hurriedly scribbled various scams reported during UPA’s tenure on sheets of paper and distributed them among his colleagues. BJP leaders held up these pamphlets in response to the Congress attack. The Congress retorted by putting up pamphlets mentioning — “Vyapam scam, Chhattisgarh scam, Chawal Ghotala, Reddy brothers mining scam, Gujarat Sujala Sufala Ghotala”. Congress MPs were holding the CAG report trooped into the Well demanding Gadkari’s resignation.
The House witnessed three adjournments in the pre-lunch session and one post-lunch as proceedings continued to be disrupted by the Congress. Other parties like BSP, SP, TMC, JD(U) and BJD did not join the protest.
